  • Happy 2 Year Birthday to CrossFit High Voltage!!!
  • We had our first group class on Monday, January 12, 2009…only a few of us there,  but as always, we had a great time CrossFitting. It’s the only way we know!
  • We started with 0 members and only 4 classes a week, barely any equipment…it was a fairly scary situation. But, Carly and I would always tell ourselves that if hard work & dedication is our only hurdle, then we could make this happen. It started off with Greg & Adel, and now just 2 years later, we have over 40 group classes and over 250 incredible CrossFitters sweating, grunting, and working their way to their healthiest life ever.
  • So, after 2 years, I’d like to once again extend a huge THANK YOU to our amazing Community! We couldn’t have made it this far without you…
  • And to top it off, member 001, Greg, aka Brown Bear, will be leading our newest addition to our group class schedule: Our Barbell Class on Saturdays at 11am! Come  learn the basics of barbell training, and get really strong once you’ve mastered them. See ya there!

Back when Steven only scored 300 on every wod (and apparently couldn’t afford shoes)…before WTF had the best nickname ever…and when Maiman was the only Josh in the box! All 3 of these guys are still rocking it with us to this very day!

And Maiman got our gym’s first bar muscle up!

And some nights it would just be Greg & Carly…

And Pnutz would bacon sizzle WITH a shirt on!

And the box looked like this…yikes…

And Carly had one of the first of her many incredible ideas…

And this was almost all of the equipment we had (and we were so proud!)…

And when this was our very, very biggest class ever…I still remember the call I got from Carly because I was out of town…we couldn’t believe it…I made her take a picture just to prove it (ps, and Leah still lived in town)…

And when Adel couldn’t believe she deadlifted 135# (she’s now above 250#!!!…ps, we didn’t even have 45# plates)

And when Greg had our very first 4 Wheel deadlift…we couldn’t believe it…you can’t even call that ‘wheels’ because we didn’t have enough weight to do it proper…Now, we look back and think ‘how cute’ that was. “There is a guy here who literally, literally, deadlifts 400#…I know…all natural too…mile time? No, not so much.” Now that’s a right of passage…And now:

Greg on Tuesday (same Greg as above…90# lighter…tons stronger…I can’t even describe how much healthier…results are typical.

Thank you all. From the bottom of our hearts. This is by far the best thing we’ve ever been a part of. We are proud and honored to lead this Community. It is a responsibility that we are humbled and motivated by. We wake up every day and are excited to help each and every one of you. This is only the beginning.

I remember when I signed our very first lease. We had no idea what we were taking on. I had enough money saved up and enough seminars scheduled around the country to stay afloat for about 4 months…not the best idea when you sign a 3 year lease. I was a newlywed in grad school who couldn’t get this ‘CrossFit thing’ out of my mind. Carly was still working as a server and doing days and graveyard at the box. Luckily I have a wife who believes in me & can work her @$$ off, parents who encouraged me ever step of the way, my friends from CrossFit Threshold in Miami who told me I actually could do this and SHOULD do this, and of course, our people who found their way into our gym and just believed in us.

I designed our first gym website in my PS239 International Relations Theory Qualitative  Research Methods class at UCLA. Needless to say, my research methods weren’t as good as my Fran time…

But the CrossFit community and concepts consumed me. I grew up in gyms, I’ve spent my whole life in gyms…this is what I know. CrossFit just always seemed to make sense…

I lived at the US Olympic Training Center. I’ve trained at the Chinese, French, & Korean Olympic Training Centers…but CrossFit was always special.

And while I thought I was made to do this…

Now I know that I’m made for this…

Thank you all. Thank you Carly!!! Thank you to all our incredible Coaches & staff!!! You are the best. It’s true. 100%.

  • Hey Volts & Vixens…the company WOD Gear (www.wodgear.com) is coming out this Saturday to film at our box. We are their box of the month for February and they’ll be filming our wod’s and talking to some of you about what makes training at High Voltage so great. So…if you want to be in…then be there!
  • New Class! Powerlifting on Saturdays at 11am lead by Brown Bear & Pnutz! We’re very excited to add another class to our schedule. Best of all, it’s included in your membership with us, and will run just like a regular class! Open gym will still be going on then…but why not hang with Greg & Pnutz and get even stronger!!! This class starts Saturday, Jan 15!
