Athlete Profile: Sarah S.

Please give a big round of applause for our latest Athlete of the Week, Sarah! Sarah did an amazing job on the CrossFit Games Sectionals. It was her first CrossFit competition, and she narrowly missed the top 60, ending up in 62nd place, but she did win our ‘Fittest in Burbank’ Challenge, and an awesome Nike gift card! She’ll be on our affiliate team, competing in the CF Games Regionals this June in Long Beach!

When did you start crossfitting at CFHV? 1year ago

Tell us about your fitness and or athletic background before CrossFitting.
I always have liked variety so I ran, did spin, stair machines, gym classes and basic weight training. I had never done Oly lifting or gymnastic moves before I came to CFHV.

How did you find about CrossFit? What was your first W.O.D. like?
I had heard about crossfit from a few friends a while ago and tried it, but never had time for it. I joined a year ago because of my friends Brooke and Josh. I don’t specifically remember my first WOD, but I remember I was determined to nail kipping pullups right away and the Oly lifts were all new for me. Overall I felt like a duck in water and that Crossfit would be a great fit for me and my ability.

What are your CrossFit goals?
My goals would be to improve on my weaknesses and my technique on all the movements. I would love to be able to do a muscle up one day. Maybe in the next year I can qualify to compete.

Who’s your favorite member to sweat with?
I love my 930 and 1230 crew. I enjoy friendly competition. Girls like Lindsay, Brooke and Hayley always push me to do better because they are such phenomenal athletes.

Since joining CFHV, what can you do now that you never thought you would ever be able to do?
All of the above HAHA!!! Pullups, running a mile sub 8.
What kind of changes have you noticed in your life since joining the CFHV family?
Since joining CFHV I am definitely faster and stronger and I realize less is more when it comes to fitness. Crossfit helps put the emphasis on intensity versus duration.

Tell us about your experience with the community of CFHV.
Tim and Carly are ALWAYS warm, friendly, and welcoming. I appreciate the team for always keeping the gym looking clean and organized. The coaches are knowledgeable and helpful and the members are all friendly and motivationg. There is great energy when you walk through the doors. I love how Tim and Carly always have events/competitions for us all to look forward to.

What is one of your favorite memories at CFHV?

Recently competing in the grueling 7 week competition with the rest of the CFHV team. Everyone was so supportive and encouraging throughout the whole process. It was awesome to witness the energy every week.

What’s your best advice for someone starting at CFHV?

Don’t quit and be consistent.
