Almost too sore to type…Monday, Sept 12

It’s here…Fight Gone Bad Friday. We’re just over 2 weeks out from Fight Gone Bad 6 at Sony Studios.

Our gym has raised over $4, 000, and is ranked 42nd in the world! Because of our Community’s hard work, the FGB6 sponsors are already sending us a reusable Fight Gone Bad Board to us! We’re looking forward to putting it to some good High Voltage use with tons of personal records on there.

We’re over 40% to our gym goal of $10,000 and crack the top 25 CrossFit gyms on the globe.

So, how can you help us do that and be even more super awesome?

-If you’re one of the holdouts who hasn’t registered yet…now is your time to do so. We need you to go to fgb6.org and join the High Voltage Team. Then, mark your calendar for Saturday, September 17 at Sony Studios in Culver City. Raise $150 for these great charities, and then test yourself in this huge Community workout. Our goal is to get 50 Volts and Vixens in this event…we’re just over 40 now, so that means We Need YOU!!!

-If you’ve already met your goal, help someone who is a little short reach their goal. Remember, FaceBook and email are the easiest ways to make this happen. Just a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse and you’re helping those who help us.

Friday’s WOD

Hey Volts & Vixens! Monday’s here. Big week ahead of us with Fight Gone Bad 6 this Saturday.

We also are coming off a big weekend for our High Voltage Competition Team. 10 of us competed at the Next Level Invitational in Orange County on Saturday.

Our Team was comprised of Stefan, Josh B, Steven, Robb, Simon, Lindsay, Brooke, Sarah, Carly, & Tim.

The competition featured many of the top CrossFitters in SoCal, athletes that just competed at the CrossFit Games & CrossFit Regionals, as well as many first timers getting their feet wet and testing their CrossFit abilities. For most of our  team, it was their first individual CrossFit competition. We were all so excited to show how hard we’ve trained for this and represent our Community…and it was awesome!

Ok, first things first. It hailed at 7am. I actually think this was a good thing because when a day starts off so strange (really, an hour long hail storm in Costa Mesa in the summer???), your mind goes to that place where you’re just ready for anything. Due to the weather, they had to change the workouts. No one minded, they were still super fun, and the event staff did a great job of handling such an abrupt change.

Sarah performed incredibly…and took 1st Place Overall in Women’s Intermediate!!! Awesome!!!

Not only did Lindsay have some killer burpees…but she took 9th overall in the Intermediate division!

Brooke had a couple of ‘goats’ in each of her workouts…but she did more double unders and pull ups in a row than I’ve ever seen her do! That only comes from hard work, and consistent determination.

It’s important to always remember, Full Effort is Full Victory!

In her first CrossFit competition ever, C-Thack  took 4th place in WOD #2 (pull up/squats) …and also had some legit burpees!

Coach Simon & Coach Josh got a little hang time together on double unders. They each did really well on the deadlift portion of the competition. Simon deadlifted 275# 55 times in 4 minutes, and Josh got 69 reps in 4 minutes, for an amazing 2nd place finish in that workout!!!

Stefan did an incredible job in his training leading up to this event. He attacked his weaknesses every day, and it showed in his performance. Almost 90 pistols in 7 minutes…are you kidding me? Incredible!

Because the event got delayed from the hail storm, Steven had to leave early to fulfill his other obligations (what a responsible man!). He placed 7th in the first workout, and even with only doing 2 of the 3 wod’s, he still placed 43rd in Men’s Advanced! WOW!

I also decided to get into the action after watching how much fun my fellow Volts & Vixens were having training together and pushing themselves. It was my first CrossFit competition as well, and I placed 10th in workout 1 & 3rd in workout 2. More importantly, it was WAY more fun than I anticipated.

We’ve always been fortunate to have great Community support, and our entire Team is thankful for everyone who made the trek to the OC for support this weekend. Special thanks to Coach Tyler for bring foam rollers, lacrosse balls, & pvc…

And to Coach Pnutz for bringing a recovery ice bath for us! Next time, let’s get a hot tub too…

And because we ran out of juice boxes and orange slices, we again improvised the best we could!

-It was a great day. Great people. A great Community. We’re all looking forward to the next one. If this type of thing makes your heart beat a little faster, sparks your interest, or makes you wonder if you could do that…talk to Coach Tim, or anyone of our Coaches at the box, and let’s get YOU in the game next time!
