~ Encouragement ~
We’re pretty lucky here at High Voltage. We’ve got a dynamic and eclectic group of people from all different walks of life. One of the best things about our members and our box is that no matter how different we are from each other either by careers beliefs athletic ability or even our age we all come together to support and encourage one another especially during a tough wod. Last week on our Veteran’s Day WOD (Friday 11/11/11) I witnessed one of the best examples of that.
The workout was the hero WOD ‘Hanson’. 5 Rounds For Time: 30 Kb Swing 30 Burpees and 30 sit-ups for time. The class had a wide range of people varying in skill level and age; all the way from some in their forties and fifty’s to people in their twenties and everything in between…experienced fire breathers down to new CrossFitters their very first class. All the while everyone was doing their workout they were still encouraging one another. Yells of ‘You can do it’…‘One rep at a time’…‘One more round’ were helping everyone continue to push on this difficult session. We were even joking and quoting movie lines to one another (insert Full Metal Jacket lines here).
But my favorite part was after an athlete finished (and regained composure…)they just got up and started cheering the people who were still going…even when it was down to one person still going everyone else was there cheering them on. The ongoing encouragement and support is one of the biggest reasons why we love our gym so much and keep coming back. It’s also one of the main reasons that’s kept me out here in California. Let’s continue to move forward and encourage one another daily. No matter how trivial a ‘you can do it’ may seem to you your encouragement can make all the difference in the world to the person next to you. Together we will continue to create something greater than we could ever do alone.
