Monday: Let the Games Begin!

With the 2012 CrossFit Games coming up this Friday, Saturday, & Sunday at the Home Depot Center, we thought we’d kick off this week of ‘Games Spirit’ with some fun CrossFit tests. Some are fun, and some, of course, are ‘fun’. Not all parts of every training session this week will be testing, but we’ll be doing something each day as this years search for the ‘Fittest on Earth’ nears closer.

The search stared at High Voltage and over 3,000 boxes around the world in February with the Open Sectionals…you remember…7 minutes of burpees! Then we had the Regional Competition where our High Voltage Competition Team made it through the final cut for the 2nd year in a row and came in 12th.

And now it’s the finals. There’s something I’ve always loved about the finals of any sport, whether it’s watching or participating. I was watching the finals of Wimbledon this morning, and I’m definitely not the worlds biggest tennis fan…but it was the finals and you could tell the energy was just different.

I still vividly remember the first time I made it to the finals of the US National Championships. I was pretty nervous, but my coach told me to relax, that the hard work had already been done in training and in the elimination matches. Now it was the finals, the thing we’d worked for, and that it was time to have some fun.

So when we do our ‘testing’ this week, have some fun with it. 5×5’s are hard. CrossFit should be ‘fun’ and as hard as it can be at times, these tests should also be fun.

Monday’s Training

All Levels CrossFit

Level 1 CrossFit

A. Snatch

  • In 12 Minutes, find your 1 Rep Max Snatch
  • From the floor to overhead in 1 motion
  • From the hang if the pull progressions are still being developed
Skill: Overhead Squat

  • Sets of 5 Reps
  • Arms straight, bar staying over mid-foot
  • 2 Minute Max Rep Jump Rope test.
B. 3 Rounds for max reps, 45 seconds on; 15 off

  • Overhead Squat
  • CtB Pull Up/Toes to bar combo (1 pull up then 1 toes to bar)
  • Box Jumps (Games style – must open up on top of box)

  • Rest 4 min, then

C. 800m run

WOD: 15 minute AMRAP

  • 200 meter run
  • Goblet Front Squats
  • 20 Lemon Squeezers
  • 20 Lateral hops over hurdle or parallete
