At least once a week (more like a few times a week) we squat.

It can be Back Squat Front Squat Overhead Squat Air Squat…and sometimes we even get you to squat without calling it a squat (can someone say thruster?)

But the question remains why do we squat?

It’s a fundamental exercise that we ALL yes ALL of us need to do on a consistent basis. It not only strengthens our knees more than any other exercise but it also serves a purpose…it is FUNCTIONAL.

The practicality of the squat goes well beyond what we do in the box. For instance ask yourself these questions:

  • how do you get in and out of a chair/couch? Squatting
  • how do you get in and out of the toilet? Squatting

There’s so much more to the squat that I can fill up a couple hundred (well let’s be real…maybe thousand) pages about the squat so while I’m writing that up let’s hear what the Founder of CrossFit Greg Glassman has to say about the squat.

B. 15 Min AMRAP

  • 200m Run
  • 6x Pull Ups
  • 12x Wall Ball
  • 18x Sit Ups
  • 24x Double Unders

A. Alt EMOM: 10 Min:

1. Front Squat

  • 5 reps @ 31×1

2. Strict Chin

  • 5 reps @ 31×1 (weighted if 5 is easy)

 

B. 15 Minute AMRAP

  • 200m Run
  • 6x CtB Pull Ups (upscale 6 Bar Muscle ups)
  • 12x Wall Ball (adv – 2fers)
  • 18x Lemon Squeezers (adv – V-Ups)
