Tuesday: The Rest Day

The rest day. It can be an oasis of relaxation for some but a boring drawn out process for others. Some people simply don’t know how to sit still!

In an interview with Michael Phelps a few years back he told one reporter that “All Championship Athletes should know how to be lazy.” This is a great piece of insight.

In order to be the best and reach your full potential you need to know how to recover with the same intensity as you train. In fact you should consider your recovery a huge part of your training from the start.

So for those of you who simply ‘think’ you can’t take a day off here are my top 10 favorite things a do on a rest day (in no particular order).

1. Watch TV

2. Cook a large meal

3. Mobility/Stretch

4. Shower/Bath

5. Sleep

6. Read

7. Video Games

8. Programming

9. Get a massage

10. Go to the beach!

Aaaaaand….Boom goes the dynamite.
