Thursday: Game Time!

Hey Volts & Vixens!

Happy Halloween to ya’ll (yeah I’m going country today)! We’re keeping the High Voltage tradition of dressing up for our training sesh’s alive…and adding to it with the Coaches dressing up too! We’ve also got a special ‘witch’s brew’ for each class! Bam!

And for those of you who have been playing along from home you might know that my Mom Noreen is competing tonight at the World Taekwondo Championships in Bali Indonesia. She’s been training crazy hard and today is the day to go out there and just go for it!

She competes at 4pm Bali Indonesia time – and if you’re one of the 4 or 5 people NOT acquainted with their time zone it’ll be 1am PST (4am EST) tonight!

If you’d like to watch tune in here: http://www.livestream.com/wtftaekwondotv or here: http://www.wtf-taekwondo.tv/

All the work has been done.

All the training is complete.

This is the fun part now – going out there and just letting it rip.

There’s 99 + Variables that go into competition but your Effort Ain’t one.

Growing up my mom always helped me focus on my effort – when I was always focused on the medal and result…but that part can be easily skewed by so many factors.

Did you win the race but everyone was slow? Did you come in last but have your all time fastest race? One of these 2 we should be genuinely happy about although it took me years on years on years to realize which one it was.

So now it’s my turn as my Mom’s self appointed ‘sonager’ and coach. The higher up we go in anything the more we lose track of the initial reasons and become overly focused on the aspects that are out of our control.

I still remember when the first World Poomsae Championships were up in 2006 – the USA had no woman in the 50+ division and my mom who hadn’t ever competed like this told me she ‘had to do this’ to show the world that you’ve always still got it so long as you want to have it.

Now here we are 7 years later on the Eve of the next World Championships.

There’s always more to prove. There’s always more that we are capable of. More always lies ahead than behind.

Regardless of outcome I’m so incredibly proud of my mom for taking this journey on and completing it in earnest.

That doesn’t mean it’s perfect. That doesn’t guarantee us any result.

But it guarantees our personal and internal satisfaction.

“Satisfaction lies in the effort not in the attainment. Full effort is full victory.”
