Lifting IRL

Don’t worry, your load today won’t be THIS oversize.

Fridays are a whole new “best” now as we go into the Spring and Summer.  It’s a great time to get outdoors and work on some of the more fun and unorthodox training methods.

Things like tires, sleds, sledgehammers, prowlers, GHD machines, kegs, sandbags & stones are all great tools to move your body in new ways.

I say new ways, but only new when compared to our normal daily training.  The truth is though, that this is the way often that our body is meant to move. Odd objects, awkward shapes, non-linear movement.

In life we won’t always encounter everything perfectly balanced on a barbell with a nice knurled grip for us.

You’ll have to help a friend move a refrigerator.  You’ll have to pick up a heavy bag of dog food and put it on a shelf.  You may need to move a couch down some stairs.  See where I’m going with this?

None of these things are traditional, easy, or straight forward.  The major thing they all have in common though is core strength and balance.

Core control.  Did somebody say abs?  That’s right!  If you want a strong core and a tight waist line, sit-ups and crunches aren’t the fastest route there.  Lifting odd objects and carrying them is!

The rest of our week of training is so regimented and linear, so come on by on Fridays and have some fun!  Get outdoors, get your sweat on, and get strong.
