In case you haven’t heard, this Saturday we kick off our 3-6 age group class, CrossFit Sparks!
For the most part your little ones will be learning how to move, follow directions, & work with others- all disguised in various play.
Here’s Coach Deb to tell you a little more about what to expect!
Super excited about our trial CrossFit Kids Pre-School class, AKA “CrossFit Sparks”, starting THIS Saturday @ 10 am after CrossFit Kids class!
As Dan mentioned last week, CrossFit Kids has been so popular amongst all age levels that there is a huge demand for a pre-school class ranging from ages 3-6.
As coaches and parents, we are here to instill a lifelong love for fitness in kids. With that being said, I’d like to take the time to explain how we tailor our program for younger kids.
We all know that a sensory environment influences learning. Developmental milestones typically occur in the same order for most little ones. Movement and sensation are followed by basic language skills, which are then followed by behavior and attention skills.
With that in mind, we’ve developed a program that concurs with the development of neuromuscular systems in young ones. Gains and positive adaptation will occur from repetition rather than heavy loading.
Our pre-school class will be broken down in the following order:
1. Basic explanation of what we will be doing in class with lots of colors and drawings on the white board.
2. Skills will include functional movements such as squatting, picking items up from the ground, holding items overhead, etc.
3. The WOD will have a more game-like aspect to it which will include basic movements such as squatting, jumping, running and some plyometric loading such as box jumps. We will focus on quality of movement rather than speed or load.
4. Last but not least, Game time! The games will incorporate some of the movements we learned in the skill and WOD.
Not only will fitness in general play a major role in their cognitive development, but our pre-schoolers will learn basic social skills.
Waiting their turn, playing alongside other peers their age and forming a community of their own will all carry over outside the gym.
If you have a little one at home and think CrossFit kids will benefit them then come try it for free for the next 4 weeks! Guaranteed this will be the best 1/2 hour of their day!”
