Member Spotlight: Katrina Villegas!

Describe your first work out here at Crossfit High Voltage:

My first workout at CFHV was during a Fusion class. I don’t remember the actual WOD but I remember it was one of Coach Mo’s Monday night specials. It was long and I’m pretty sure I died a little afterwards.

Before joining High Voltage, when did you know something had to change?

I was actually already doing Pilates three times a week before joining. However after hearing my husband, Randy, talk about the WODs and seeing him drenched in sweat, it made me want to join the box. We used to do WODs at home but it had been a few years since I had done burpees, push-ups, and all the other movements.

Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.

My most memorable experience so far has to be during the 17.5 open workout. I wasn’t able to string my double unders yet but I decided to do the workout Rx instead of scaled. I basically did ‘single-double-single-double’ until I finished. It took me twice the amount of time but I was happy that I finished my second Rx open workout during my first ever open experience.

Outside of High Voltage, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!

I’m a registered nurse at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Go Bruins!

How has getting in shape changed your professional life?

I’m able to practice what I preach. I educate my patients on the importance of following a healthy diet and exercising regularly, not just for a quicker recovery but so that they may feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally. Doing CrossFit has also inspired many past and present co-workers to start exercising.

Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join High Voltage

I have met a lot a great people and have made new friends since joining High Voltage. I love being around positive, happy people and there are plenty here at HV!

When have you used CrossFit outside of the box?

I use CrossFit all the time when lifting patents in bed and helping them in/out of bed. I also use it to make one trip with all the groceries, which Randy doesn’t believe in.

Who is your most idolized fellow community member?

Everyone in this box has made a conscious decision to better themselves and that takes a lot of courage. I idolize anyone who choses to put their health first so that means every single one of you! However if I had to choose just one community member, it would probably be Coach Bryan Felix. I think he sleeps in the little room above the PR board because he’s always at the box. He does so much for our community and helps make things flow effortlessly.

What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?

My next CrossFit goal is to be able to do pull-ups and eventually do a muscle-up. My one year goal is to still be doing CrossFit without injuries!

What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?

My favorite WOD is anything less than 10 minutes. I like them short and sweet! My least favorite movement are burpees. I know they are probably the best movement for you but I will never enjoy them.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

DOUGHNUTS! Specifically Sidecar doughnuts but I’ll take any doughnut if you have them.

If you want to sweat, laugh, move, and feel good about yourself, then CFHV is the place to be!
