Our featured member this week is a guy you’ll never hold back or keep down. No matter the challenges in his life, he always prioritizes his training.
We’ve seen quite the transformation over the years, and even while juggling a night time work life AND raising two pretty fantastic young girls, his dedication & consistent work ethic have proven to bring continued success.
He’s a staple at the momWOD, but showing us all what it means to dadWOD. I’m very pleased for you to meet:
What’s your name?
Describe your first work out here at CrossFit High Voltage:
My first workout at CFHV was Helen (3 rounds for time of: 400M run, 21 1.5 pood KB swings, 12 Pull ups) The workout was very humbling. I came into it coming from a Triathlon background so I felt that my cardio was strong and boy was I wrong, the running was cake but paired with KB swings and pull-ups it really destroyed me.
Before joining High Voltage, when did you know something had to change?
I started my journey into fitness with Triathlons and 5k runs because I got to the point where I weighed around 250lbs and I felt that my health was deteriorating. I was diabetic and I knew then that I needed to do something about it or suffer the consequences. When I moved to Burbank I stopped my endurance training and felt I needed something new, this is when I found CFHV and fell in love with it.
Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.
Meeting all of my friends has been the most memorable. I have made amazing life long relationships here. If it wasn’t for HV & DadWOD I’m pretty sure we would have left the Burbank area.
Outside of High Voltage, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!
I am the the Digital Media QC supervisor for a post production house here in Burbank.
How has getting in shape changed your professional life?
Without fitness I would most likely be sedentary all day. I sit in front of a computer for most of my work day. So with crossfit I feel that I have more energy to get around and get things done.
Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join High Voltage.
I have two beautiful little girls (ages 1 & 2) that most of you have met. I am now 43 and I want to be healthy and able to be mobile for my girls for as long as possible. I don’t want my age or body to hinder me in any kind of activity that they may want us to do. So with fitness I feel that I am not only improving my life but will be able to have a positive impact on theirs.
When have you used CrossFit outside of the box?
Every day when I am playing, running and picking up Penny & Lennon.
Who is your most idolized fellow community member?
Like most of everyone’s answer there isn’t just one person that I idolize or look up to. But there is one group of ladies (and gentlemen) that do inspire me everyday and that is the momWOD/Open Gym crew. Everyone from Angie Griffin and her tenacity, Leslie Zwicker’s new love of CrossFit, Andrea McDaniel’s crazy endurance to Dani Adkins smile through everything attitude and the list can go on and on and on. Bryan Felix is ok too… I guess.
What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?
Passing the trial by fire test. I think I would be the oldest member to do so?
What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?
My favorite movement is the back squat and my least favorite movement is the back squat (you have to hate it to love it).
What is your favorite cheat meal?
If you had to describe CFHV in one sentence:
CrossFit High Voltage is family.
