Member Spotlight: Randy Del Rosario

Seems to be a theme lately of hard working members finding their fullest potential.  Today’s member is a true testament to that!

I still remember getting that first email from him and his wife (a former member spotlight!) asking about CrossFit and High Voltage.  They quickly became staples at our early morning classes, and the rest is history.

Watching this guy give his all is very inspiring, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the day he took on Trial by Fire. WOW! No doubt we’ll see him conquer that beast in 2018, and I have a feeling he may still have a major acheivement in him before 2017 is up.

Read this so you can make sure you can say you knew him before he was famous:

What’s your name?

Randy Del Rosario

Describe your first work out here at Crossfit High Voltage:

My first workout at CFHV was a beginner fitness class in the morning. I was nervous and did not know what to expect. Can’t recall what the workout was but it had wall balls and I remember not being able to walk for the next two days.

Before joining High Voltage, when did you know something had to change?

Two years ago, my wife and I moved to Burbank. I remember telling her that I was always tired and felt sluggish. I would come home from work, sit on the couch, and watch tv until it was time for bed. I’ve had it so one day I decided to browse for Crossfit gyms in the area. Dropped in to HV and never looked back.

Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.

“Trial by Fire”. Coaches at HV know what each member is capable of. Coach Bryan and Coach Jose kept bugging me to try it. I gave them every excuse in the book until I decided that Saturday morning that I would give it a shot. Going into the test, I knew that the barbell portion would be my limiting factor. I’m a tiny guy, I struggle with anything heavy. What makes this memorable is having everyone cheer you on. Jame Furnish stuck with me the entire 25 minutes as my personal cheerleader! Him and Jose (my Judge) encouraged me at every failed rep to walk away, breathe, and attack it again. There was nothing left in my tank but everyone just kept cheering to keep going. I was not able to finish within the time cap but learned so much that day about what I am capable of and what I need to work on.

Outside of High Voltage, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!

I work as an Inventory Lead for Apple Inc.

How has getting in shape changed your professional life?

Receiving Apple products require manual labor. Moving and carrying boxes such as a 27 inch iMac is a lot easier now. Gains.

Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join High Voltage.

Joining HV made me a more sociable person. It helped me to be more confident in myself.

When have you used CrossFit outside of the box?

All the time.

Who is your most idolized fellow community member?

Bryan “Thunder” Felix. I would not be at the level I am today in CF without his continuous guidance. Also, the guy is my height and lifts double what I lift. So you could say he is my #goalz. Also there is a certain group that I look forward to seeing every morning and I can’t write this without giving them a shout out. 7AM Crew!!! You all push me every single morning.

What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?

Pass Trial by Fire.

What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?

I enjoy doing Burpees…ha that’s a lie. Favorite: I like them all equally. Least Favorite: It’s not a movement. Equipment: Assault Bike.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

I like to snack. When my wife, Katrina buys a big bag of potato chips. It will be gone within that day or the following.

If you had to describe CFHV in one sentence:

A place where fitness goals are made and demolish them shortly after.
