Member Spotlight: Eddie Martinez

It’s the gentle giant today. Don’t let his imposing stature fool you, he’s one of the most humble, kind, and sweet guys you’ll ever meet.

He’s a staple at our momWOD, but can be found at just about every class time. It’s because no matter his schedule, he always makes the time to get in his workout.

Consistently I’m amazed at the unbelievable amount of weight this guy throws around with ease! What really impresses me though is all the hard work I see him doing to improve his mobility.

Putting in that hard work that isn’t always fun has truly transformed his mechanics. I’m really proud to call him a member of this community, and you’ll be pleased to meet:

Describe your first work out here at Crossfit High Voltage:

I don’t recall my first workout but if it was anything like my last workout, it sure kicked my butt!

Before joining High Voltage, when did you know something had to change?

I started Crossfit because a particular job that I was applying for used Crossfit in their workouts and I thought it would be a good idea to become familiar with the movements, and that’s why I started.

Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.

I would have to say getting my first bar muscle up during last years open. That was definitely the highlight of Crossfit for me.

Outside of High Voltage, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!

I’m a gang investigator with LASD

How has getting in shape changed your professional life?

I’d like to think I’ve always been in shape, but working out is part of my livelihood and what keeps me safe. Joining Crossfit has really helped with strengthening my core which takes a beating when you’re wearing a 40 pound gun belt for 10-16 hours a day.

Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join High Voltage

My wallet… just kidding… I think I make it a priority to get my workout in, wether it’s the 6 am class or momWOD or an evening class. so I would say my schedule definitely has been most impacted by my decision to join high voltage making sure I workout.

When have you used CrossFit outside of the box?

Part of my duties are search warrant service, which can be pretty dynamic events, from scaling walls to ramming doors down, I think Crossfit helps immensely with that aspect of my job.

Who is your most idolized fellow community member?

I idolize all the momwoder’s because those ladies kick ass and take names

What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?

To get my bar muscle ups back… I’ve lost them

What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?

Bar facing burpees, thrusters, and elevated single leg reverse lunges can kiss my you know what

What is your favorite cheat meal?

Beer
