Three Wise Men- Honoring Our Veterans

This Sunday, November 11 is a special day as we honor our armed forces for Veteran’s Day. As has been tradition since 2014, CFHV will take a moment to pay our respects this Friday with the Hero WOD “Three Wise Men”.

The “Three Wise Men” were brothers; Jeremy Wise, Ben Wise, and Beau Wise (READ: Washington Post: One family; two sacrifices).

They were warriors — Jeremy a SEAL, Ben an Army Green Beret, and Beau, USMC Infantry. Tragically both Jeremy and Ben were killed in action. Beau remains on active duty.

Today we recognize the sacrifice of Jeremy and Ben, but we’re focused on honoring Beau and those like him who returned from combat and are trying to live with the legacy of combat daily.

On Memorial Day, you can find gyms just about anywhere in the US that are participating in “Memorial Day Murph” and supporting the Mike Murphy Foundation. That is appropriate given Memorial Day is the day we honor those who died in combat.

Veterans Day is different as it is the day we honor ALL who served, and those who survived combat, but may be struggling to survive the peace that hopefully comes after.

Suicide rates among returning soldiers are alarmingly high, and the foundation set up in honor of the Wise brothers aims to help raise awareness.

CFHV is very proud to have many veterans amongst our community, and we would love for you all to pay them the proper respect today and every day, and thank them for their service.


AcroYoga Workshop:

What: Join Coach Lura Harley for CFHV’s very first AcroYoga Workshop!
When: Saturday, November 17th 2-4pm
What is AcroYoga?
AcroYoga is a physical practice which combines yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage. There are 3 primary roles: the base, the flyer and the spotter.
 
Do I have to be a gymnast or an experienced yoga practitioner to try AcroYoga?  
Not at all! This workshop will take you through some of the very basic AcroYoga poses. Familiarity with yoga positions and some body awareness doesn’t hurt, and flexible hamstrings make most things easier.
Unlike many yoga styles, however, you will have to talk to and touch other people, including other people’s feet. Make sure you come with clean feet 🙂
What should I bring? 
You don’t need to bring anything special other than yourself and a positive attitude! Wear clothes that are not too slippery: full leggings are best. Also, if you tend to get extra sweaty, I would recommend a hand towel.
