What’s your name?
Describe your first time trying CrossFit:
I was in the Navy and my superiors made us do it. Just body weight stuff. I think it was a modified version of Cindy. It made a lot of my weaknesses surface, so I pursued a gym out in Walnut. There’s actually a Youtube video of doing it with KB’s , ring rows, and a run. I was DYING! After that, I became hooked.
Before starting CrossFit, when did you know something had to change?
It honestly had to do with my weight. I was weighing at 275# and everything felt like a struggle. How you ask? Well, I lifted weights and ran very seldomly. My hours were long and the job was very demanding. So fast food and a lot of burritos at Alberto’s were my only options.
Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.
It would have to be when I tied for third place at this NLI competition. The other person was actually Tommy Pease. I remember I was working my ass off to prep for that. It definitely paid off. Interesting fact is that Tommy placed fourth one year at the So-Cal Regional. The running joke for a while was that i practically was fourth place at Regionals…nbd
Outside the box, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!
Other than coaching you ask?! I am the Director of Operations & CPR instructor at Hands to Heart CPR. Check us out!
How has getting in shape changed your professional life?
Sometimes I have to carry multiple bags of mannequins for long distances. Also, some sites I teach at have a lot of stairs. CrossFit has played a key role in being able to do my job without dying!
Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join CrossFit:
Just overall health and the way I look. I am rarely sick and I am very satisfied with my physique.
When is a time you’ve been able to use CrossFit outside of the box?
Moving stuff here at my job and of course my dad will call me to help him mount some heavy rugs on these rails. They are heavy! (he owns a carpet cleaning business).
Who is your most idolized fellow community member?
It would have to be my fiance, Jeannette Valenzuela. Despite her being upset about her shoulder, she still makes it an effort to come day in and day out. Another reason I idolize her is because she actually pays attention to what the coach says when he or she explains a workout! xD Jk! In all seriousness, her progress never ceases to amaze me. I’m in awe.
What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?
Improve on gymnastics. Be more efficient with HSPU, HS walks, and muscle ups.
What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?
Fav: Clean & Jerks……least? Repping out thrusters. They take so much out of me. #tallmanproblems #longdistancefromgroundtooverhead
What is your favorite cheat meal?
If you know me, you know it’s TACOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you had to describe CrossFit in one sentence:
A conduit to improve every facet in your life because to continue and/or be better at it, you must make better choices.
