My FAVORITE WOD of the Year!
It’s time to talk about my FAVORITE WOD of the Year!
Grab some hot cocoa and snuggle up by the fire, because I like to tell this story (and share the above picture) every year.
Since opening in 2009 CFHV was traditionally always closed on Christmas Eve as are many businesses, but that all changed in 2013.
I wasn’t the owner at the time, just a member and a young, enthusiastic coach who just loved fitness SO much! Haha. Since I had keys to the gym and wasn’t very good at taking a rest day, I decided a few days before Christmas Eve that I would write a special WOD.
I definitely couldn’t imagine taking TWO days off, and this was a great way to try and literally balance the scales before diving into all of the delicious food that was bound to come my way.
I wrote my own “12 Days of Christmas” WOD, where the reps work just like the song: 1 rep, then 2-1, then 3-2-1…you get the idea. Being the guy I was, I wrote a really difficult monstrosity of a WOD. I love chippers with heavy weight and complex movements, so that was the idea.
Plus, it was just going to me by myself…so no big deal, right?
I don’t remember exactly when, either the day before or the morning of Christmas Eve, I posted on Facebook that I would be opening the gym at noon that day to do my WOD. Anybody who wanted to join was welcome to come!
I expected a few people to show up, maybe 4 or 5…it’s always more fun to work out with friends.
…what I didn’t expect was 38 people to show up!
Needless to say, it warmed my heart and was an amazing day where everybody had a ton of fun, got a great workout, and created some awesome memories…
…and a NEW tradition was born!
Tomorrow on Christmas Eve, that tradition will continue and I hope you all will join me!
As we head into the sixth year, the WOD has evolved to make it more accessible for all progression levels, but also still have options for those of you who love a long, heavy monster.
It can be done with a partner, small group, or solo, and as always there are plenty of scaling options to make it as easy or as difficult as you care to work.
What’s important is that it is all inclusive and open to our entire community!
There are TWO class times available, and they will be capped at 22 due to logistic limitations:
- 9:30am is WITH daycare, so please try and only come at this time if you need child care to WOD.
- 11am is with NO daycare, so this is a great choice if you don’t require that service so we can leave the 9:30am available for those that really need it.
I hope to see as many of you there as possible. Merry Christmas!
