What a SMASHING Success!
You guys! I’m seriously a mixed bag of emotions this week. A couple big ones come to mind though, so let me see if I can work through them as I type.
The first word that comes to mind is PROUD. I’m proud of all of you. I’m proud of all of my coaches. I’m proud of our community. This week was just an amazing avalanche of PRs every day. You all worked so hard and stayed consistent even through the holidays, and it really showed.
Another word that comes to mind is HUMBLED. I’m humbled by your loyalty and trust. I’m humbled by all of the great feedback about the programming and how well it’s working. From first timers, to old veterans having plateau break-throughs- the entire spectrum is there.
I’m also AMAZED. This was our momWOD class’ first time following along with the CrossFit cycle, and every single day of testing basically the entire class PR’d. The energy has been amazing, and it’s so great to see the videos, hear the stories, and share in the excitement.
I’ve said it before and it’s the truth- programming is all just a loose science. I do my best to learn from the past, plan for the future, and be innovative where appropriate, while maintaining a consistent measured approach. It’s all just theoretical though.
It takes a team of great coaches to guide you safely to success. It takes your hard work on every rep, every day, every week. It takes you showing up and pouring your heart and soul into it giving everything you’ve got…and then a little more. It takes you all supporting each other, but also genuinely caring about the success of your peers. Sure, friendly competition is fun, but you all support one another’s goals- and that’s where the magic is.
Watching our gym over this last 8 week cycle is just so powerful. To see you all do SO well- it swells my heart and fills my cup. It goes beyond that though. Our last 8 week cycle you all killed it too, so to have the larger arc of 16 weeks (that’s nearly 4 months!) see so much greatness is really so prolific to me.
Strength numbers are up all around. Just look a these photos of Monday and Wednesday’s whiteboards! But that’s not all- metabolic conditioning has significantly improved as well. So many PRs on “Isabel” and your bike sprints- yeah, I know they sucked…but look how awesome you are now!
Oh yeah…and did I mention our attendance record of nearly 140 on Monday!?!
Anyway, if you’ve read this far, I’ve rambled on enough. This has been such a great kick off to the year, and the best ain’t over yet because…
The CrossFit Games Open registration is LIVE as of today!
Our first “Friday Night Lights” will be Friday, February 22, and we’ll hit each WOD for 5 weeks along with every other CrossFit gym in the world.
Each week we will have a different theme AND a sponsor, plus you know we bring the DJ to kick things off. So lots of free stuff and a ton of fun as always. CFHV FNL events are legendary!
Make sure you go to https://games.crossfit.com/ and register to represent your gym NOW! Choose “CrossFit High Voltage” as your affiliate.
…not familiar with what the Open is? Read on…
The process for qualifying for the CF Games that takes place each year in July begins a worldwide in house competition called the CrossFit Open.
Every Thursday for 5 weeks, CF HQ releases a WOD that hundreds of thousands of CrossFitters all over the world participate in and log their scores.
This allows you to see where you stack up against all of the other athletes in the world, no matter what your ability level is. As of 2014 HQ has included a scaled division, so literally everybody can now participate!
It’s a great opportunity to add a little more intensity to your daily workout and enjoy a spirited competitive environment, but still within the safety of a supportive and welcoming community.
Victories outside of the gym aren’t always as easily measurable and repeatable, that is a big reason why we love CrossFit.
Expect weekly victories that will improve your fitness, elevate your attitude, & bond you with your entire community!
