What’s a floater?

What’s a floater?

What’s a floater?

It’s a question that’s popped up a few times now in regards to our “Rumble in the Box”.  There are two WODs.  WOD 1 was released about 2 weeks ago, and WOD 2 gets released THIS Sunday, July 9.

WOD 1 is for rounds, as in how may rounds can you complete in a given amount of time. This is considered a work priority event.

WOD 2 will be for time (spoiler!) which is considered a time priority event. This means there is a set amount of work for everybody that must be completed in the fastest time possible.

Both of the WODs will be at specific scheduled times.  Your team will have a heat time and lane assignment made ahead of the competition.

The final event is the floater.  The floater is a short test.  Sometimes it is a 1 rep max lift, or sometimes a complex of lifts.  It could also be a sprint on a bike, row, or run.  It may even be a carry for distance.

It is quick and done just one time for a max effort.  The floater is NOT at a specific time, and you and your partner may decide when you want to do it.

You will sign up the day of the competition to complete the floater whenever you decide it fits best with your other two WODs.

So, that’s it!  What’s it going to be?  Well, you’ll have a pretty good idea after I release WOD 2 on Sunday.  Just by elimination you’ll see which movement or movements are left from the list I already released.

Hint: hopefully you’ve been coming to class on Tuesdays for this cycle.  It may or may not involve something we do every Tuesday.

…ok, so I’m not great at keeping secrets.

July Challenge:

In case you haven’t noticed, the CFHV July Challenge is UP!  Check out the side whiteboard and you’ll see.

  • Day 1: hold the bottom of a squat for 10 seconds
  • Each day add :05 seconds.

Haven’t started yet?  It’s only July 6!  Go hold the bottom of a squat for 35 seconds and you’re in the game!  It’s important to be comfortable in this position.

Final strongWOD this cycle:

Then on Saturday July 29 we see the return of TWO classes:

  • Firebreathers @ 8am (advanced class & requires test in)
