Our spotlight this week shines on a pretty impressive woman.  The timing couldn’t be better with all the love the video of her and last week’s featured member is getting on IG as they made quick work of “Grace” this morning!

She’s a firecracker, a hard worker, always ready to learn, very coachable, AND has a smile that lights up the room.  She also may be the only person I know who says she loves Fran!

Describe your first work out here at Crossfit High Voltage:

I remember arriving bright and early at 6am for my very first workout at CFHV. I was new to the area, and just moved to Burbank from Texas just one month before. Of course my very first workout at High Voltage was a partner workout. Ahhh!!! I didn’t know anyone, crap! But in good fashion, I was first greeted by Bryan and THEN greeted with an energetic “Hey how are you? Want to be my partner? What do you do for a living? Where are you from?” from the ever lively and fun Jeff Hopkins. I think he asked me all of those questions in the midst of doing burpees over the bar. LOL. At that point, I knew I’d found my home gym.

Before joining High Voltage, when did you know something had to change?

When moving here, I knew I had to find a box right away. The first box I went to was nice, but just didn’t feel “right”. I knew I had to find a place that I was excited to be at and looked forward to going to, otherwise, CrossFit would have felt like “work”. I found the right spot when coming to CFHV.

Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.

My most memorable CrossFit experience was in 2015 when I did my first RX competition at a women’s only competition in Austin, TX. I made it to the top 5 finals and the final work out was BRUTAL. I mean I literally left my spirit on the floor. Well, of course I went ham out of the gate and rebounded my first round of 24″ box jumps, but then all hell broke loose. By the time I got to the 4th heavy hang clean, I looked over at my friends who were there cheering me on and said “I’m done, I can’t finish” and fell on the floor. They said pick it up, you have to finish (there was no time cap). I finished the hang cleans and crawled over to the box, and guess what… I was the ONLY one left on the floor of the 5 finalists. Everyone else had finished minutes before, but, the beauty was this… the ENTIRE gym, spectators, volunteers, and all the other competitors were standing around me in a huge circle, cheering me on to finish with every single jump. I finished and my husband and coach literally had to carry me off the floor, as my legs were completely dead. But that day, I learned so much about myself. That day humbled me. It taught me the power of the mind and that my body can do what my mind doesn’t want to do. Most of all I fell in love with the spirit of CrossFit and the hearts of every single athlete I encountered that day. I’ve done this workout 3x since that day as a reminder of mental strength. (That picture of me, solo on the floor, still floats around on the internet every year that competition comes around).

Outside of High Voltage, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!

By trade, I am the Head of Global Marketing for a Texas based company. I’ve been with them for 7 years. I am currently enrolled an a top elite Nutrition Certification program studying Exercise and Sports Nutrition.

How has getting in shape changed your professional life?

Confidence. Pure confidence. I feel like I can walk into the most intimidating situations and still feel completely confident because I’m a woman with muscles. LOL! I know that sounds silly, but I work in an industry that’s dominated by males in their 50s and I’m often the ONLY woman in the room… and the youngest. Trust me, if I were not in shape I would feel completely intimidated sitting across the table in a board meeting or attending a major industry conference. However, when I look across the table and if any feel of intimidation creeps into my mind, I think to myself “I can do more pull ups than him.” Or my favorite, “I bet I can overhead squat his weight.” 🙂

Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join High Voltage.

Friendships. I have gained some of the greatest friends and relationships since joining High Voltage.

When have you used CrossFit outside of the box?

Jumping on counters to reach the cabinets.

Who is your most idolized fellow community member?

My 5:30pm ladies for sure. You know who you are.You ladies push me to my max.

What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?

Get my first ring muscle up. And then my second, and third, etc.

What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?

My favorite WOD is Fran, hands down and I love gymnastics movements. My least favorite… it’s a close tie between rowing and the assault bike

What is your favorite cheat meal?

Grimaldi’s Coal Brick Oven Pepperoni Pizza!!!

If you had to describe CFHV in one sentence:

It’s my 2nd place.
