Member Spotlight: John Rigelhof!

I often joke with today’s member that he is my #lifegoals.  All kidding aside, it’s pretty incredible to see a man who has turned the corner on his sixties to be in class every day, and always taking on new challenges.

He came to us already in pretty good shape, but to have the privilege of watching him improve his mobility, strength, & stamina as incredibly as he has is truly awe-inspiring.

There just isn’t anything he wont give a try, and he gives his full effort in every WOD.  You’re very lucky to get to know:

What’s your name?

John Rigelhof

Describe your first work out here at CrossFit High Voltage:

It was a bit of a blur. What I do remember was a WOD that included 30 Wall Balls for multiple rounds. For some reason I thought 20 pounds should be good. Bad decision. I remember Dan was watching and “cheering” me on! OMFG. That sucked.

Before joining High Voltage, when did you know something had to change?

I’d been dealing with injuries for a number of years and avoided resistance training. Had some things fixed and knew it was time to get back at it. I was looking for some structure, and didn’t want to join a “gym”.

Describe your most memorable CrossFit Experience so far.

I did the Open earlier this year. I enjoyed the camaraderie and the extra push the event created.

Outside of High Voltage, what kind of work do you do? Give yourself a plug!

I’m an editor/preditor. I’ve cut a couple features, TV programs, trailers, extra features for DVD’s, commercials…. Currently work for TVG network Cutting promos for horse races around the world.

How has getting in shape changed your professional life?

I’m in a dark room at a desk every day. I need the exercise to keep the blood flowing. It’s helped me focus on a healthier life style.

Tell us about an area of your life most impacted by your decision to join High Voltage.

I can’t say it’s changed my life in any way specifically. I’ve always tried to be physically active. I guess it’s just that there is a plan, or cycle that is set up, and all I have to do is show up and do the work. So it simplifies the staying in shape process.

When have you used CrossFit outside of the box?

I’ve completed the Spartan Beast and Super this year, and will complete the Trifecta with the Sprint in December. I could not have survived the Beast without my CrossFit training

Who is your most idolized fellow community member?

I would say Jose was incredibly helpful as I was beginning my journey. Since his departure Dan has been a very supportive and positive influence.

What is your one year or next CrossFit goal?

Double unders.

What is your favorite & least favorite movement or WOD?

Fav: Deadlift. Hate: Burpees

What is your favorite cheat meal?

Oh, there are so many!

If you had to describe CFHV in one sentence:

A great supportive community coming together to pursue their fitness goals.
